Dedicated to preserving Santa Barbara’s historic architecture, landscapes and cultural heritage.

August 2024

The month of August has been called “the bridge that connects summer’s dreamy days with autumn’s golden hues.”

This month in Santa Barbara Barbara is bookended by two fine events: It begins with the 100th anniversary of Old Spanish Days and ends with the return of our Kellam de Forest Speaker Series. Read about both special events in The Capital this month.

As we continue in our efforts to educate, protect, and preserve our community’s unique historical heritage, we’re often drawn to learn about similar work in other communities. While Los Angeles is not the first place we think of for historic preservation, we were inspired by this report about the recent successful efforts of the Los Angeles Conservancy in the designation of Marilyn Monroe’s Spanish-Colonial house as a Historic-Cultural Monument and saving it from demolition. The video is worth a view: Don’t miss the designation of 84-year-old Pink’s Square.
